Florida House of Representatives

After the Florida District's reconfiguration House of Representatives in 2012, Hood opted to run in District 25 just created. He won a Republican nomination without an opponent, and easily defeated independent candidate Christina Spencer-Kephart in the general election, winning 61% of the vote.

During the 2012-2014 legislative session, Hood endorsed the law filed by Katie Edwards who gave the judge more leniency when determining the punishment for drug offenders, saying, "We are only talking about first offenders, nonviolence, no previous history, and what we do is put the wisdom on one person in the courtroom... an impartial observer: the judge. Florida's 17th Judicial Circuit Court

Instead of seeking re-election in 2014, Hood opted instead to run for a seat at Florida's Seventh Judicial Circuit, and he was originally set to fight Michael Orfinger. However, when Judge David B. Beck decided to retire from the bench, Governor Rick Scott appointed Hood to replace him at the Seventh Circuit. Hood ended his campaign against Orfinger, and on September 30, 2014, after his appointment to the bench, he resigned from the legislature.

On August 30, 2016, he lost re-election to a circuit trial that was defeated by A. "Kathleen" McNeilly in a voice of 63,727 to 80,481.
