Trace Evidence - 007 - The Supicious Disappearance of Sky ...
src: i.ytimg.com

On the morning of November 6, 2011, Sky Elijah Metalwala (born September 6, 2009) from Redmond, Washington, United States, disappeared. Reportedly ill, his mother, Julia Biryukova, said she put her and her sister in a car along the Bellevue road to go to the nearest hospital; along the way he states that he runs out of gas, leaves Sky in the car while he goes to get help. When he came back, he left and has not been seen since.

The situation was reported to the police, who immediately came to doubt Biryukova's account because his car was found to have enough gasoline in the tank and in working order. It also shares similarities with an episode of Law & amp; Order: Special Victims Unit which has been re-aired in Seattle the night before. Shortly before, Biryukova had decided to withdraw from a mediated custody treaty which was the last stage of a fierce divorce from Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala. Solomon remains actively assisting police in the investigation, believing Sky's disappearance is linked to custody disputes.

Biryukova is less cooperative with the police, although she claims she has no more ideas than her ex-husband about what happened to Sky. Although there are allegations that he ignored Sky when he was in his custody, and the state children's welfare agency has tried to expel a child he has with a husband then with a history of abuse, the police have made a "strategic decision" not to accuse him of endangering the child leaving his son in the car the day he disappears, to keep their options open if they learn more about Sky's fate.

Both parents of Sky are immigrants to the United States. Solomon Metalwala is from Pakistan; Julia Biryukova is a Ukrainian born in Russia, where she later admitted to having been in shock therapy in a mental hospital during her childhood as a punishment, in addition to beating discipline regularly by her parents, with serious negative effects on her self-esteem as a result. Solomon has run a department store when the two meet.

Biryukova met her future husband at the age of 15, in 1997, three years after emigrating from Russia. He was a student at Bellevue High School. Metalwala, then 21, invited him to a party. The two began dating, and he worked at his family-owned restaurant in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood. In 1999, when he finished high school and was naturalized, the couple bought Bellevue condos for habitation.

While Biryukova and Metalwala enjoy work and many recreational activities together, there is some friction between them. Police in Kirkland were called when the couple was seen arguing loudly at a local gas station over their plans for the night. The man gave his name as Sulaiman Metalwala, who is said to be Solomon's brother.

Biryukova then told a clinical psychologist she saw that at this point she had learned that her boyfriend could be "very in control" and she became emotionally dependent on her in turn. However, in 2003, he married her in a brief ceremony in her mother's kitchen. Then he says his family gave him the option to do it or never see him again, as they claim he is facing an imminent deportation, for unknown reasons. Biryukova later claimed that she did not tell her family the real reason the two were married until 2010.

In 2005 Metalwala became Christian; he and his wife started attending a church in Kirkland. Biryukova believes that her parents-in-law accused her of doing this, imposed their relationship with her and caused more problems in their marriage. In two years they also experience financial problems, when competing stores are opened next to their restaurants, cutting their income. Maile's daughter, their first child, was born in 2007.

Businesses are declining in the Great Recession that began in 2008. Despite the setback, the two bought a home in Kirkland that year for more than $ 800,000, in addition to the mortgage payments they still had to make at their Bellevue residence.

Sky was born in 2009; a psychiatrist, Biryukova, saw her antidepressant prescription when she was pregnant even though she said she did not need it. At that time the lender began to confiscate the family property and they arrears many of their bills. They had to move from Kirkland's home and to the smaller Bellevue residence. Solomon claimed in later court letters that at this time, his wife's psychological problems began to manifest themselves, causing him to start eating out and sleeping on the floor to obey his obsession by keeping the condo clean. The council quoted the couple several times for violating noise regulations; at one point they wake up their neighbors by vacuuming after 11 pm. He, in turn, accused him of being a controller and angry.

When the boy was two months old, his parents left him alone in their car in the Target parking lot for almost an hour on a day when his outdoor temperature was 27 ° F (-3 ° C). Both parents were arrested after police told them to go to their car and were accused of being dangerous. They claimed that they were only inside for 20 minutes and did not want to wake him up, but the video footage of the store's security camera denied them. After they agreed to take up the nursing class, the charge was dropped several years later.

Divorce

On Biryukova's 29th birthday, in early 2010, she briefly committed to the mental hospital for the first of three times, after telling Solomon that she dreamed of killing children. There, he was diagnosed with severe obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); but psychiatrists do not believe that it makes him unfit to be a child's parent and he will then deny that he has been diagnosed as such. Not long after he came out, her husband filed for divorce.

Later Biryukova will commit again. After the couple split up, she sent a message to her husband claiming to have an idea of suicide, which he then claimed he had done just to get his attention. After he entered the third hospital, he was found to have a Global Assessment of Functioning score of 15, indicating that he was a danger to himself and others; it has risen to 40, meaning little damage, by the time he is released.

After the release, Solomon and his brother took Biryukova to the University of Washington Medical Center where she volunteered. When she was there, their lender confiscated her in the condo. Solomon moved with the children to his parents' home in Kirkland.

The couple vigorously questioned the divorce. Suspected Biryukova in his report that Solomon has been rude and that he is afraid for his life. He claims that the allegations were made, and said his mental problems made him unstable, unable to keep food at home or let his children sleep in bed because of his OCD. The Child Protection Service investigates the claim that Solomon had injured his daughter but deemed it unfounded; but Solomon was forbidden to meet his children for a year when investigated. At different times in this case, both look for command protection against each other.

In September 2010, the court gave Biryukova full custody of both children. He refuses to let them see Solomon, who has no visitation rights. He kept pressing the matter in court, along with some other issues like the property they both had. He offers to give up allowances and child support if he lets him move to Arizona with the kids, but he refuses.

This dispute continued for over a year. In November 2011 the court trial of the case ordered the couple to mediation weeks to resolve their issues. This session was reportedly successful, with both agreeing that Biryukova will have custody of both children while Solomon gets a full visit. However, on November 3, shortly after the agreement was signed, Biryukova called her lawyer and, saying that she felt depressed during the session, decided to cancel it.

Disappearance

Biryukova said her son woke up ill in their Redmond apartment on the morning of November 6th. He placed him and his sister in the car he was driving at the time, an Acura Integra two doors from 1998, and headed to the Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue. He then stated that about 2600 blocks of 112th Street N.E. in the city, the long section of the road that follows the high concrete barrier around the bend of Washington State Route 520, just west of the intersection with Interstate 405, runs out of gas.

Biryukova parked the car on the side of the road and left Sky tied to her car seat inside while she picked up Maile for help. An hour later, he reached a Chevron station a mile (1.6 km) to the north where he parked. Instead of buying gas or asking someone to take him to his car, he called a friend, who gave him a ride back to his car.

When he returns, Sky is gone. He called the police to report him missing. They in turn contacted Solomon before noon that day.

Investigation

Seeker combed 20 blocks of cars but found nothing. The police immediately came to doubt Biryukova's account. His car, when tested, proved to have sufficient fuel in the tank and operate normally. Within an hour of wandering the neighborhood before he gets to the gas station, he does not seem to be trying to seek help from the population. He has left his home with a sickly child who did not take his wallet, wallet and phone. No gas found in the car.

When asked more about this, Biryukova took the Fifth Amendment right and refused to take a lie test. Biryukova, however, gave investigators permission to search for his car, his computer, and his home. No signs of Sky in or near the last location. His car was unlocked and showed no signs of forced entry. The police searched Solomon's house too, and found nothing. After the lie tests he performed that night after the disappearance proved inconclusive, Solomon picked up another one the next day, though neither he, his lawyers, nor the police shared his results with the public.

Police also immediately learned about the 2009 incident in which he and Solomon had been arrested after leaving Sky in the car unattended. During the investigation, the two claimed to have left their own children for long periods of time. Detectives will not confirm whether, according to some reports, Biryukova has done so during a long mediation hearing weeks before Sky disappears.

There were a few questions about whether Sky had been in the car that morning to start. Riders passing by parked Acura do not report seeing anything unusual, not even a child in it. At Biryukova's apartment complex in Redmond, the neighbors say he and his children rarely get out, and no one has seen Sky for at least two weeks. Solomon did not know anyone had seen his son other than his ex-wife since his doctor's visit in April. However, Maile told police that Sky was in the car that morning.

The theory that the disappearance of Sky may have been regulated by Biryukova drew more confidence when the police learned of a strong coincidence between her story and the episode of the popular crime drama that was recently broadcast Law & amp; Order: Special Victim Unit . In an episode titled "Missing Pieces", the young couple claimed their baby boy had been kidnapped when their parked car was stolen. It was later discovered that they buried the boy in the belief that they had accidentally killed him and made the abduction a cover story. The episode, first broadcast two weeks earlier, was played back the night before Sky disappeared.

"I know that there are some people at the command post operating center who have seen on the episode," Major Mike Johnson of Bellevue police told reporters, "and have commented that it is very similar in nature." Through his lawyer, Solomon told People that Legal & amp; The message is his wife's favorite show.

Biryukova's presence on the Internet is also intriguing. On his Facebook page, he has posted many pictures of Maile but almost no Sky. During the previous months, he also posted profiles for seekingarrangements.com, a dating site for women looking for "sugar daddy," a rich man who is willing to support younger women financially as part of a romantic relationship. He sought "financial stability," as well as $ 3,000-5,000 cash per month.

Investigators publicly declared that they did not believe Biryukova's story and alleged criminal activity had taken place. But they did not formally describe him as a suspect or an attractive person, nor did he sue him by endangering the children despite the circumstances of his case and his arrest in the past, along with her later husband, for leaving Sky in the car unattended.

The decision not to do so, they say later, is a "strategic decision"; to secure a conviction, police and prosecutors must prove that they believe Biryukova turned out to leave her son alone in the vehicle for an unreasonable period. But if evidence later shows up that Sky has been killed or kidnapped involving his mother in some capacity, evidence indicating that he has never been in the car to start, arresting him with allegations that he did leave him there could make the prosecution for more serious allegations probably, said a police spokesman. Later, Solomon's lawyer told Seattle Weekly another reason for the inaction: If the police arrested Biryukova, she and her lawyer would be able to review all the evidence the police had collected up to then, which neither they nor Solomon wanted do it.

Next development

Two weeks after Sky disappeared, Biryukova finally discussed the case with the media. ABC News gets an email address that his relatives say is his and uses it to contact him. He reiterated that he did not know where the boy was and called his ex-husband a "sadistic Muslim Pakistan" who did not tell the truth itself. About the case itself, he said his lawyer had instructed him not to discuss it with anyone; he ignored the specific question of whether he really ran out of gas that morning.

The network could not confirm whether it was true that Biryukova had responded to them, as she was known to be living with the family at the time. However, Solomon told them it sounded to him the way he would speak. "Obviously he's just trying to make me a little upset," he said. After reviewing the email, ABC shared it with the Bellevue police, who could not comment on them but believed that it might be of value to their case.

The Department of Social Services and Health (DSHS) removed Maile from Biryukova's home behind the disappearance of her sister and placed her into foster care. Solomon is given a visit twice a week while petitioning the court to ask for divorce to grant custody to him, which is done after removing the remaining protective orders. The divorce was awarded in January 2012.

In 2015, on the fourth anniversary of the case, new Bellevue police chief Steve Mylett appealed openly to Biryukova to talk to them again. "I'm sure you hold the key to finding Sky," he said in a local newspaper. While the previous year the department said it had run out of all the clues that had been reported, at that time Mylett claimed Solomon had shared some new information that was not specific to those who might prove useful. Sky images that have grown digital age to show how it may appear at that time are distributed along with the original photo.

Remarriage Biryukova and the third child

Around the time of the fourth anniversary of disappearance in 2015, it was reported that Biryukova not only remarried the previous year but gave birth to her third child by her new husband in July. DSHS workers are trying to move babies out of their care.

DSHS is most concerned about the mental health of Biryukova, given the diagnosis of OCD and hospitalization in the past, after complaints from people who gave birth to children. They also found the father, Alan Morgan, a convict convicted, troubled. The authorities in Florida have taken a child from his home there. The second month of marriage, Biryukova reported it to the police in Redmond for allegedly attacking him and getting orders without contact; he still visits him regularly in jail on Issaquah, where he was when he gave birth, under a pseudonym. Both confess to investigators that they are not living together despite giving them the same address; Biryukova said at one point she did not even know who her father was despite her name on the child's birth certificate.

Theory

No traces of Sky are found in the neighborhood, so it is believed he does not roam alone. In the absence of any new information or useful hints, and with Biryukova's account still considered to be doubting, Sky's disappearance theory has assumed her mother secretly. If he is alive, it is believed that he let others take him that day, or earlier, with Sky's presence in the car an invention. "He made up the story of the hospital and when he realized nobody believed he hired a lawyer," Leslie Clay Berry, Solomon's lawyer told Seattle Weekly in 2013.

Solomon believes that his son is alive, probably not in the US. In the spring of 2011, after a visit to a doctor who was the last independent record of Sky's presence outside Biryukova's household, he recalled that his distant father came from Ukraine to visit him. He wonders to Weekly if an older man can bring the boy back to the country with him at the time. But he admits that in 2013 he does not know how that can happen.

Terry, his lawyer, believed more certain that Sky had never been in the car that morning. The police are also expected to not find any evidence in the apartment. "He's a clean person, and he probably whitens everything," he told the newspaper, pointing to OCD Biryukova.

Unlike his client, he doubts about the outcome of this case. "I do not think he's alive," he said in 2013. "Solomon does not like when I say that, but that's what I think." While he believes Biryukova is responsible for his death, he allows that it may only result from negligence rather than a deliberate crime.
