Early life and education
Gloria Rachel Bloom was born into a working-class Jewish Philadelphia family on July 3, 1941. Her father, Morris, worked as a salesman; her English-born mother, Stella, is a housewife. After graduating from Philadelphia High School for Girls, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he met his first husband, Peyton Bray. The couple had their only child, Lisa, on September 20, 1961, and divorced shortly afterwards. Lisa Bloom is also a lawyer and best known as an anchor TV Court before.
Gloria Bloom moved back with her parents and continued her education. In 1963, he earned a bachelor's degree in English, graduating with honors. During a vacation in Acapulco in 1966, Bloom was raped at gunpoint. She finds her pregnant and seeks an abortion. In a legal career that has spanned four decades, Allred has represented a wide range of clients in civil rights lawsuits that have involved sexual harassment, women's rights, cessation of wrong, and employment discrimination. The New Republic has called him "the master of the old press conference." He often takes high profile cases, using press conferences and appearances on television for many effects. Allred has represented many clients in matches against celebrities, including those who fought drummer MÃÆ'ötley CrÃÆ'üe Tommy Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Herman Cain, David Boreanaz, Scott Lee Cohen, Anthony Weiner, Sacha Baron Cohen and Essays Morales.
1970s and 1980s
Allred started Allred, Morocco & amp; Goldberg with fellow graduates Loyola Michael Morocco and Nathan Goldberg in January 1976. In 1979, Allred represented seven children and their parents in a lawsuit against the Sav-On drugstore chain to stop the shop from appointing a separate section for boys and girls toys. He kept pressing the Committee and pressing Packwood to release his diary. The Committee finally voted for his expulsion, and he resigned.
In 1995, Allred represented the eleven-year-old Katrina Yeaw at Yeaw v. Boy Scouts of America , a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America to determine whether an organization has the right to exclude women from becoming a member. In the same year, he represented the family of Nicole Brown Simpson during the assassination trial of O. J. Simpson. In August 1997, he represented Kelly Fisher's model when he sued Dodi Fayed for allegedly breaking their engagement to begin a massively publicized relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales. The lawsuit was dropped shortly after Diana and Fayed died in Paris in August.
Allred represents Hunter Tylo's Melrose Place Hunter Tylo in 1997 when producer Aaron Spelling fired her because she was pregnant. The jury gave Tylo $ 4.8 million. Cases are important in establishing the rights of actors to continue working if they become pregnant.
2000s
After pop singer Michael Jackson held his son on a hotel balcony in Berlin in 2002, Allred wrote a letter to California's Child Protective Services, requesting an investigation into the safety of Jackson's children and speaking on CNN about the issue. On February 24, 2004, Allred and his law firm, Allred, Morocco and Goldberg, filed the first lawsuit in California challenging the rejection of marriage licenses for the same gender couples as unconstitutional. He took the pro bono case for Robin Tyler and Diane Olson and Rev. Troy Perry and her husband, Phillip Ray De Blieck. The case was brought to the California Supreme Court where on May 15, 2008 he won a decision confirming the right of the same sex couples to marry in California. He represents three former Circuit City employees on behalf of the large plaintiffs class in the age discrimination lawsuit against the company after dismissing 3,400 workers nationwide in April 2007.
In a March 2008 complaint against TSA, Allred represented a client who was given pliers and told to move his nipple ring at Lubbock airport, Texas. On March 28, 2000, Allred was parodied in the animated TV show Family Guy by a character named Gloria Ironbox voiced by Candice Bergen in an episode titled "I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar". Personal life
Allred is the mother of Lisa Bloom, her only child from her first marriage. Though he was a Jew, Allred did not consider himself very religious.
Criticism
Allred's arrogance and desire for the media spotlight have earned him criticism. In 2012, The Atlantic described him as a "feminist ambulance hunter" after he defended two women involved in a sexual lawsuit against actor John Travolta.
