Lawrence Eric Taylor (born April 1, 1942) is an American lawyer and writer. Graduates from the University of California, Berkeley and the UCLA School of Law, Taylor are public defenders and criminal prosecutors in Los Angeles County before entering private practice. He currently heads a law firm in California that restricts his practice of driving drunken driving. Both Taylor and his law firm are rated "A-V" ("very high in excellence in law and ethics") by the Martindale-Hubbell International Law Directory. Taylor and his law firm have also been acknowledged by Super Lawyers | Super Lawyers magazine for 2004 to 2012 as one of the 5 percent of DUI defense attorneys.
In the case of People v. Charles Manson , Taylor is a legal justice counsel. He also advised the California High Court in the case of Field Ony's killing, and the independent Special Prosecutor detained by Attorney General Montana for a one-year grand jury examination of government corruption. Taylor was elected "professor of the year" during his tenure at Gonzaga University School of Law. He is also a Fulbright Professor of Law at Osaka University in Japan and a visiting professor at Pepperdine University School of Law.
A founder and former dean of the National College for DUI Defense, Taylor has lectured in more than 200 lawyer seminars in 38 states. He is the author of 12 books, including the famous textbook on the subject of DUI, now in the seventh edition. On July 25, 2002, Taylor presented the NCDD "Lifetime Achievement Award" at Harvard Law School.
