Matthew D. Orwig (born January 2, 1959 in Ardmore, Oklahoma) is an American lawyer. Orwig has served three presidents and five public prosecutors in leadership positions in the Department of Justice. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas in 2001 and served there until 2007. Orwig served as managing partner of the Dallas SNR Denton office and was a member of the Litigation and Leadership Dispute Department from 2009 to 2011. Orwig joins Jones Jones's global law firm in 2012, as a Business Partner and Litigation Tort Practice at the Dallas office. In 2017, Orwig became a founding partner of Winston & amp; The Dallas office was withdrawn where he was a member of the company's litigation department.

Orwig began his career as a judicial legal officer for the Honorable Halbert O. Woodward, head of the Northern District of Texas judge. Orwig then spent three years in Jones, Trout, Flygare, Moody & amp; Brown, where he grew from partner to partner. Orwig joined the US Department of Justice as a US Attorney Assistant in the Northern District of Texas in 1989. He lived there until 1997, when he went to spend a year at Washington D.C. as a Legal Counsel at the US Attorney's Executive Office. In 1998, he became Assistant US Legal Advisor and Health Care Fraud Coordinator in the Eastern District of Texas.

President George W. Bush named Orwig US Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas in 2001. As US Attorney, Orwig directs some of the highest and most successful prosecutions in the country, including cases targeting public corruption, money laundering, securities fraud, trade insider, health care scams, capital murder and domestic terrorism. He also serves on many subcommittees of the Advisory Committee of the Prosecutor General, including the White Collar Fraud Subcommittee and the Health Care Fraud Working Group.
Winston & amp; Withdrawn
Orwig joins the global law firm Winston & amp; Described as founding partner in February 2017 as one of 23 partners from eight different law firms in Texas. Before joining Winston & amp; Withdrawal, Orwig is the Business Partner and Tortact Litigation Practice on Jones Day from 2011-2012 and founding member and Managing Partner of the Dallas SNR Denton office (later Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal) from 2007 to 2011, where he guides the office development from a three-lawyer's operation to a thriving 60-lawyer office.
Since entering the private sector, Orwig has also been recognized as Texas's premier lawyer by numerous publications. Orwig has been listed as a Super Texas Lawyer since 2009, and as a top lawyer in criminal defense/white-collar by the "Super Corruption Correspondents" edition of the National Super Lawyers. D Magazine named it among 2008 "Best Lawyers in Dallas," quoting his work in white-collar criminal defense, and then renamed it among the "Best Business Lawyers" in 2009, citing his representative of a company involved in a government inquiry. The February 2009 edition of CEO D was named Orwig as a "You Must Know" lawyer.

Orwig is the primary author of the Dallas Code of Conduct, adopted by the Dallas City Council.
Education
Orwig graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1984. He was named "Alumnus of the Year" in 2007 by Texas Tech University School of Law.
He previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Texas Tech in 1981 and graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas, in 1977.
Orwig also serves as professor at Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law, and Texas Wesleyan Law School.
