Paul G. Hyman Jr. is a judge for the US bankruptcy court, Southern District of Florida. He used to be the Chief Justice.

Biography

Hyman received a Bachelor of Economics degree from Vanderbilt University in 1974. He received Juris Doctor in 1977 from the University of Miami School of Law. He started his legal career as a lawyer's assistant for Britton Cohen Kaufman & Schantz from 1977 to 1979. Hyman then served as assistant district attorney for Southern County, Florida from 1979 to 1980, and in private practice for Britton Cohen Kaufman & Schantz for the next two years. He moved to Denver in 1983 to join Holme Roberts & amp; Owens. In 1993, Hyman was nominated to serve as US District Judge of the Southern District of Florida and became Chief Justice in 2006.

Hyman serves as Co-Chairperson of the Honorary Committee of Bankruptcy Judiciary and a member of the executive council of the Business Law Section and the Archives and History Committee of the Florida Bar.

He retired in 2017 and was given a three-year withdrawal promise in 2018.

Personal life

Hyman was married for 27 years with lawyer Judy Hyman, who died in 2010. He later married attorney Kelly Hyman.
