The University of Northern California, Lorenzo PatiÃÆ'Â ± o School of Law ( UNC ) is a private law school located in Sacramento, California. UNC offers part-time, four-year legal programs as well as paralegal programs. As of June 30, 2013, the State Bar of California Committee of the Bar Examiners does not have a registered UNC as a law school; and the Northern California University website does not include Juris Doctor as one of its academic programs.

History
The law school was founded in 1983 by Leonard Padilla, who later named him in honor of his friend and late judge Lorenzo PatiÃÆ'Â ± o (who served as his first dean) in association with lawyers Heman Smith and Douglas Nareau and law student Danny Brace, Jr.
The school held its first class in spring 1983. The first instructor was Douglas Nareau, John Ewing, Betty Rocker, Heman Smith, and Linda Dankman. Nareau and Ewing are shown at the Sacramento Bee as Valedictorians of their respective law schools. Betty Rocker has gained a lot of fame as one of Sacramento's premier defense attorneys and Smith has gained praise for the successful litigation that challenges redlining as a loan practice. Lorenzo Patino was one of the first Latin judges in this state and was an early supporter of MADD.

Authorize to operate
School law does not have professional accreditation from the ABA Office of Consultants on Legal Education]]. or the State Bar of California Committee of Bar Examiners.
As an unaccredited educational institution, UNC must be authorized to operate by the California Postecondary Private Bureau of Education. It was approved to award a Juris Doctor degree and a certificate in paralegal studies. It is registered as a law school that is not accredited with the State Bar of California's Committee of Bar Examiners.
Because not accredited, UNC law students must take and pass the First Year Law Student Exams, informally called "Baby Bar", at the end of their first year to receive credit for their law studies and as one of the qualifications to follow the California Bar Examination after taking the degree.
Bar pass rate
From 1997 to February 2011, 134 graduates of Lorenzo PatiÃÆ' Â ± o took the California Bar Examination as first-time takers; of that number, 12 have passed the exam for 9% graduation rate.
