Kehidupan awal, pendidikan, dan karier

Vic Snyder was born in Medford, Oregon. He was a graduate of Medford High School (1965) and attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma. In 1967, after two years of college, Snyder volunteered for the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam with US Marine Division 1 Company Headquarters during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of corporal. During this time he traveled abroad to volunteer for his medical services at Cambodian refugee camps in Thailand, Salvador's refugee camp in Honduras, and the Ethiopian refugee camp in Sudan. Arkansas Legislature

In 1990, Snyder managed to run in the Arkansas legislature and served in the body until 1996. In the Arkansas parliament, Snyder stepped into one of the earliest legislative controversies as he tried to uproot an old "Sodomy Law". Ultimately, however, his efforts failed, and the sodomy law remained in effect until the Supreme Court's state hit him at Jegley v. Picado in March 2001.

  • Joint Economic Committee

Snyder focuses on many traditional liberal issues, including a special interest in supporting veterans and military families. He has a fairly liberal voting record for being an elected politician from the South and conservative-leaning Arkansas. Snyder voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, the ban on partial birth abortions, banned lawsuits against arms manufacturers and distributors, bankruptcy reform, drilling at the ANWR, and on October 10, 2002, he was among 133 House members who voted against endorsing the invasion of Iraq. In addition, Snyder is one of only two members of Congress to vote against Saddam Hussein's prosecution.

On the issue of free trade and expanded, Snyder is different from his party, especially his populist counterparts in the South. He also opposes a law that goes against Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Arkansas.
