Drew Darby (born February 22, 1947) is a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives from his native San Angelo, Texas. He represents District 72, which consists of West Texas Coke, Concho, Glasscock, Howard, Irion, Reagan, Runnels, Sterling, and Tom Green districts.

In 2017 Texas legislative session, Darby served as chair of the House Energy Resources Committee and chair of the Select Committee on State and Power and Federal Responsibility. He also serves in House Ways & amp; Committee for Means and Expansion.

At the 2015 Texas legislative session, Darby is chairman of the House Energy Resources Committee and seated at Cara & amp; Facility Committee.

At the Texas legislative session of 2013, Darby is chairman of the House Expansion Committee and sits on the Alliance (as chairman of the Subcommittee on Natural Resources, Business and Economic Development and Regulatory Body) and the Higher Education committee.

Careers

Darby is a former member of San Angelo City Council. He is a former chairman of San Angelo's Water Advisory Board and Lake Nasworthy Adviser Board. He is a member of the Texas Agriculture Bureau, National Weapon Association, Texas Sheep and Goat Associations, Tom Green County Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, and San Angelo Chamber of Commerce.

The Texas Association of Counties honors Darby as "Friend of County Government" in 2009 and 2011.

Darby was nominated again for a fifth term in House District 72 in the Republican primary held on March 4, 2014. He received 11,697 votes (79.5%) for his challenger Shannon Thomason's 3,022 (20.5%).

Personal

Darby is a native of San Angelo. He was arrested in November 2013, for carrying a pistol in his carry-on bag through a security checkpoint at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. On January 3, 2014, District Criminal Court Judge 147 Travis assigned Travis District Prosecutor's Office to cancel the case when the investigation found no intention by Darby to violate the law.
