James M. Bennett (born April 11, 1948) is a New Jersey-based nonpartisan activist for FairTax, a tax reform strategy in the United States that will replace the Internal Revenue Service with taxes on consumption. He promotes FairTax on radio talk shows, television shows, speaks at local workshops and conferences, and manages Internet-based promotional campaigns. He has written hundreds of letters to editors for publications such as Atlantic describing his defense FairTax and urging citizens to write their congress members to support the bill FairTax in the House called HR25 and the Senate called S.1025. He is the deputy director of the American branch of New Jersey for Fair Taxation. He is a lawyer and lives in Summit, New Jersey.

Regarding his defense of FairTax, Bennett described himself as nonpartisan and, together with the FairTax organization, did not support the Democratic or Republican party but supported FairTax to the leaders of both political parties. Bennett, in a television interview, explains "The Americans for a Fair Tax is a nonpartisan nonprofit grassroots organization and concentrates on one issue and the goal is to educate the public about FairTax actions." He did a letter-writing campaign to try to persuade members of Congress to reform the tax code. He did a seminar to explain FairTax to people. He participated in a booth at a local New Jersey exhibition. Bennett has advocated FairTax to legislator assistants to New Jersey legislators such as Senator Frank Lautenberg.
