Early life and education
Stephen Babcock was born in West Monroe, Louisiana. He studied at Cedar Creek School in Ruston, Louisiana from kindergarten to seventh grade when family finance issues required his transfer to Ruston Jr.'s public. High and finally Ruston High School, where he graduated in 1991. Babcock followed Louisiana Tech University where he earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in marketing, and Juris Doctor (JD) from LSU Law School. He was initiated into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Texas A & amp; M University.

Initial career
Babcock's first job as a lawyer was as a lawyer in court for Allstate after he passed the Louisiana exam test in 2000. A year later, he entered private practice as an associate attorney with McKay Williamson Lutgring & Cochran and soon after that opened his own law firm, Babcock Law Firm, LLC in March 2003. Babcock Law Firm renamed Mitra Babcock in July 2010.
Legal practice
Babcock has represented a wide range of clients including wounded individuals, small businesses, Fortune 500 companies, Louisiana State University, foreign countries, and the State of Louisiana in civil cases involving serious personal injury, contract disputes, insurance coverage disputes, , and shareholder disputes, among others.
In July 2013, more than 200 news sources, including the Associated Press, confirmed that Stephen Babcock was employed by Unlimited Duck to represent the organization in a high-profile, million-dollar federal lawsuit stemming from a contract dispute over a New Orleans artist's print. Babcock proposed four Motions for a summary appraisal at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on behalf of Unlimited Duck. Three of the four movements were given. This case resulted in voluntary dismissal.
In early 2013, Babcock earned over a million dollars for the Louisiana company in a dispute over insurance coverage on the basis of contingency fees.
He was nationally known for the case of December 2007 where he got a state judge to agree to postpone a hearing scheduled to begin on the same day LSU played Ohio State at the BCS National Championship in 2008. He defended Imperial Casualty Insurance Co. in a lawsuit over a car accident, and asks for a delay as he has tickets for the January 7, 2008 game at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. He and other LSU fans have rented the second floor of a Bourbon Street bar for a pre-match tailball party.
In a court document requesting suspension, Babcock is famously called Ohio State as "Slowhio". He states that "All lawyers for this matter totally agree that LSU's presence in a pigskin skill contest is undoubtedly a good foundation" and goes on to say that "In fact we can not go through many imaginations and hypothetical scenarios to think of the reasons better. "The judge agreed and granted the suspension.
In another great case, Stephen Babcock won a nearly $ 2 million arbitration award for hotel operators, against the owners of the Hilton hotel they manage, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the Commercial Properties Realty Trust.
In another prominent case, Babcock represents and defends the Bulgarian Republic in high-risk tobacco litigation with the state of Louisiana.
In the news
On June 23, 2015, Stephen Babcock posted on Facebook about seeing a young woman rescue the American Flag during a lightning storm, creating a #JenaIsAPatriot hashtag that became viral.
In January 2015, Stephen Babcock was named chair of FuturePAC, the political action committee of Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
In August 2012 Babcock was included and extensively cited in The Advocate (Louisiana) article that discusses individuals who bring their pets to work and their effects in reducing stress at work.
