Anna Marie Caballero (born April 18, 1955) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly, representing the 30th Assembly District, encompassing the Pajaro Valley and Salinas. He previously served in the state assembly, representing the 28th Assembly districts in November 2006 and ran unscathed in 2008. Caballero ran for the State Senate of California and lost his election in 2010. Caballero has served as Mayor and member of the Salinas Council, California before the Assembly election.
Among his two duties in the state assembly, Caballero is the Business Secretary, Consumer Service, and California Housing Agency. He was appointed to California State and Consumer Services Agency by Governor Jerry Brown on March 22, 2011. He is a Democrat of the California State Council who was elected to serve
Born to a family of copper miners, Ms. Caballero moved to Salinas Valley 25 years ago to work in California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA). He attended the University of California San Diego and law school at UCLA. As a lawyer, he represents striking farm workers and struggles alongside unions to prevent factory closures. He, along with three partners, founded the law firm Caballero, Matcham & amp; McCarthy, in 1982 to provide low-cost legal services. This business received several awards. Caballero is recognized with the Athena Award for entrepreneurial excellence.
Caballero was assigned to the Planning Commission and subsequently elected to the Salinas City Council in 1991. He was later elected Mayor in 1998. As mayor, he carefully piloted Salinas through budgetary issues and managed to keep Salinas's library open through a donation program. Caballero won the elected to the Assembly of State in 2006.
Caballero also serves as executive director of Partners for Peace, a non-profit organization dedicated to unifying communities to prevent gang violence and focus on literacy, early childhood education, and providing services to families. Caballero is also a wife and mother. Her husband, Juan Uranga, is the Director of the Center for Community Advocacy at Salinas.
Caballero ran for the California State Senate in 2010 to replace the limited term [1] Republican Founder Jeff Denham, who managed to run for Congress. Surprisingly, Caballero lost to Ceres Major Anthony Cannella.
In 2018, Caballero announced that he would again run for state Senate to replace Cannella, who has a time limit.
