April Charney is an American consumer lawyer and consumer advocate famous for his service to the Jacksonville County Legal Aid from 2004 to early 2012. Charney has been at the forefront of the legal battle against seizure of illegal homes in America that use fraudulent practices and has successfully debated a number of foreclosure defense legal strategies including generating notes and real parties in interest arguments.

Charney is a legal aid lawyer who brings national attention to illegal and fraudulent actions by banks in a Jacksonville foreclosure court accompanied by a reporter at one of the congregations, who sees, directly, what's going on. Published by Rolling Stone during November 2010, the Invasion of the Snatchers documented the practices used in public court proceedings. The reporter also stated in his article that the judge intimidated homeowners who fought the seizure of talking to reporters and, shortly thereafter, threatened Charney in an email which, after a recurrence, would quote him with an insult to "bring a stranger to his court".

A member of the National Consumer Advocate Association and the National Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers Association, Charney instructed advocates and lawyers across the country on defense foreclosure strategies and tactics to protect consumers.

He affirmed that some lawyers are experienced in legal matters in such cases and that judges are often unfamiliar with the details of bank strategies that have been developed under loose regulations over the last few decades, which accelerated the economic crisis that began during the late -2000s. Charney has been a keynote speaker for several "teaching-in" sessions that seek to make knowledge of legal solutions to these cases more accessible to the lawyers and consumers they represent.

Earlier in his career, Charney assisted low-income tenants in Sarasota, Florida against improper evictions. Between 1991 and 2003 he practiced law in Sarasota with Gulfcoast Legal Services as a managing and staff prosecutor. After that he was 'relocated' to a second residence in Jacksonville for his job at the Jacksonville Law Aid Area.

Suffering from a life-threatening acute illness in early 2012, Charney resigned from his position in Jacksonville and after being released from the hospital, moved to his former full-time residence for a protracted recovery. Nevertheless, he continued his advocacy and education activities throughout the country.

In 2012 Charney is one of two foreclosure experts featured by Neighborhood Neighborhood Council Sarasota County, Inc. [3] at a special event titled, Foreclosure Mess 101 , [4] and in September 2013 it will be featured on Foreclosure Mess 101, an update by April Charney , which will held by the same organization.
