Francis Marion Allegra (October 14, 1957 - August 27, 2015) is an American federal judge in the United States Federal Court.

Early life and education
Judge Allegra grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. He graduated from the Borromeo College of Ohio in 1978, with a degree in philosophy, and then, in 1981, received a Juris Doctor (magna cum laude) from Cleveland-Marshall Law School at Cleveland State University. After graduating, he served as a legal employee to Chief Justice Judge Philip R. Miller of the US Claim Court from 1981 to 1982.

Professional career
From 1982 to 1984, Judge Allegra was an associate at the Cleveland law firm of Squire, Sanders, and Dempsey, where he specializes in tax and bond work. In 1984, he joined the Appeals Section of the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice. From 1984 to 1994, he was an appeals litigator, handling the most complicated cases of the Tax Division in Federal courts across the country. During this period, Judge Allegra continued up the ranks of the Division of Taxes, becoming the first Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General of the Tax Division and then Counsel for Assistant Attorney General of the Tax Division.
In 1994, Allegra was appointed Adviser to the Deputy General Prosecutor (the third highest official in the Department of Justice). Shortly thereafter, he was appointed Deputy Attorney General. In the latter role, Judge Allegra worked with the Tax and Antimonopoly Division, as well as with the National Economic and Domestic Policy Council at the White House.
Judicial career
On October 22, 1998, at the age of forty-one, Judge Allegra was appointed by President Bill Clinton to be a judge in the Federal Court of the United States. More than his judicial career, he has published over 250 published opinions, on topics including taxes, government contracts, intellectual property, takeovers, and military and civilian jobs. From 2003 to 2010, Judge Allegra was a member of the Information Technology Committee of the United States Judicial Conference.
Judge Allegra is a professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches Litigation with the Federal Government and seminars on sovereign immunity. In 2012, Georgetown gave him the Charles Fahy Academy Professor's Award, given annually to an additional professor who has made outstanding contributions to the Law Center. Judge Allegra is also often a lecturer in the Federal Judicial Center program and other programs involving intellectual property, taxes, government contracts and the use of technology in judgment. He is considered an expert in matters involving electronic discovery.

Personal
Judge Allegra married in 1996 and has two children. He is a fierce mineral collector, who writes columns - Legal Nuggets - for Mineralogical Records. He is also active in Italian-American affairs, especially with Sons of Italy. She is a former President of the Children of Italy International Lodge # 2522. She is one of the founders of Friends of Charles Bonaparte.
