The Big Five law firms are terms used informally in South Africa to refer to law firms that, collectively, are regarded as a leading South African-based law firm.
The following companies are usually seen as consisting of "Big Five" (listed alphabetically):
Note 1 : Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr previously allied with DLA Piper. Its affiliate with DLA Piper ends in late August 2015.
Notes 2 : On June 1, 2011, Deneys Reitz Inc. joined the UK-based company, Norton Rose.
Note 3 : Webber Wentzel is a partner of ALN. On February 1, 2013, the company entered into a collaborative alliance with the global law firm Linklaters.

Note 1 : Baker & amp; McKenzie opened her South African office with lawyers, staff and partners from Dewey & amp; The Johannesburg office of LeBoeuf died after the bankruptcy of the company.
