Brian C. Griffin (born 1953) is an American businessman from Oklahoma who currently serves as chairman of the board of directors for Clean Energy Systems, a privately-based energy technology innovation firm Rancho Cordova.

Griffin previously served as Oklahoma Environment Secretary under former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating. Griffin served as Secretary of the Environment from 1997 to 2003.

Griffin received a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1974 and was selected as Rhodes Scholar. As a Rhodes Scholar, he studied at the University of Oxford where he received his law degree in England. He also holds an American Juris Doctorate degree. Griffin began his legal practice in tax law as well as oil and gas law. Oklahoma Governor George Nigh appointed Griffin to serve as Oklahoma's representative to the Inter-Country Oil and Gas Compact Commission. In 1986, he was a Republican nominee for the Oklahoma Attorney General. He lost the election to Democratic nominee Robert Harlan Henry.

Griffin serves in the George H. W. Bush administration as Assistant Deputy Attorney General in the US Department of Justice's Tax Division. In 1992, he was appointed to lead the United States Administrative Conference. While with the Department of Justice, some of Griffin's duties include working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

After leaving the federal government, Griffin founded The Griffin Companies, a real estate development holding company, which he served as president until 1997.

Environment Secretary

In 1997, following the resignation of Gary Sherrer, Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating appointed Griffin to serve as the second Environment Secretary. Griffin will remain in that position until the end of Keating's term as Governor in 2003.

As Environment Secretary, Griffin oversees Oklahoma Environmental Quality Department, Oklahoma Water Resources Board, and Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Department.

Return to private sector

In January 2004, Griffin was appointed President and Board member for Clean Energy Systems, California-based California-based energy technology innovation firm Rancho Cordova. Griffin will then be elected chairman of the company's board of directors, a post he currently holds.
