Murder

Markel was shot at his home in Tallahassee, Florida shortly before 11 am on July 18, 2014, and died early the following day. He was on the phone when he got into the garage, and said that he saw someone in his yard. The Tallahassee Police Department announced that Markel was a "fated victim" and called his death a murder. On August 1, 2014, the Associated Press reported that an emergency medical response was delayed because the dispatcher mistakenly classified the call as less serious than that.

A highly respected and popular professor, Markel is the subject of many awards from the academic community. A day after his death, a funeral was held at the synagogue he attended, the Shomrei Torah Congregation, in Tallahassee. Markel is buried at Pardes Shalom Cemetery in Maple, Ontario.

A $ 25,000 CrimeStoppers prize is offered. An independently-funded $ 100,000 award was offered in July 2015. At that time, the anniversary of the assassination, the Tallahassee Police Department held a press conference and showed photographs of Toyota Prius Silva-Mica, asking the public for help. in finding a vehicle. The police also released unlicensed police reports from the scene in February 2016, but this contains no new information on crime, only the names of police officers who visited the scene.

2016 development

On May 26, 2016, a suspect, Sigfredo Garcia, 34, from Miami Beach, was arrested for first-degree murder under a warrant issued by a Leon County judge. Tallahassee police will not release any further details, but told reporters that the killing was being investigated as a murder for hire and sources said they were expecting more arrests in the case. A few days later, a judge in the District Court of Leon ordered the possibility of an affidavit statement behind an unsealed arrest. The statement revealed the researchers' belief that Garcia and Luis Rivera, 33, had traveled from the Miami area at a rented Toyota Prius, staying at the motel on the night of 16 and 17 July 2014, to commit a crime. Evidence includes cell phones, banking and SunPass electronic toll collection records; recording security cameras from city buildings and buses along Markel's road and the murder suspects have been pushed, and testimony from an unnamed informant along with the nearest witness. The morning of the murder, they had followed Markel while he was on duty and went to the gym, until they could shoot him at his home. The statement further explains the theorists' theory that Markel's death was a contract-killing, because none of the defendants knew Markel, and no property was taken. The motive is believed to be the desire of Wendi Adelson's family, Markel's ex-wife, to allow her to move to the Miami area with children. He has been granted custody 50-50 when the pair's fierce divorce has been settled in 2013, when Markel has won an order that prohibits him from moving to Miami with the children. Markel filed a motion in 2014 that would ban his mother-in-law from being alone and not being watched with children for alleged disparaging comments about their father. The researchers suspect Adelson's brother, who reportedly disliked Markel, was in a "personal relationship" with Garcia's ex-wife. Garcia's former wife was the first call Garcia called after Markel was murdered.

The Grand Jury in Leon County indicted Garcia and Rivera for first-degree murder in connection with Markel's murder on June 17, 2016. Rivera has been jailed on unrelated federal charges since 2014; he pleaded guilty in a federal court in Fort Lauderdale to a racketeering conspiracy arising from his leadership of the North Miami group of the Kings Latin gang, was sentenced to more than 12 Ã, ½ years in prison, and is currently imprisoned at Coleman's federal prison in central Florida.. State filed documentation to court. This includes detailed information about Rivera and Garcia's first trip to Tallahassee on June 4-6, 2014, including a full review of mobile phones and GPS recordings placing them around Markel on both trips, and possibly expanded that caused affadivit that included photographs and map related to the murder. Media released a Toyota Prius video stalking Markel across Tallahassee on July 18, 2014. Sigfredo Garcia is depicted at the Toyota Prius at an ATM in Pembroke Pines, wearing a long-sleeved white shirt. Media reports using the released video show that immediately after the murder, a video from the Tallahassee Bus ("Suspect Passes Bus"), indicating the Prius went north on Thomasville Road with an individual on the passenger side transforming into a long-sleeved white shirt.

A detailed document makes this case against Charles Adelson, Katherine Magbanua, Sigfredo Garcia, and Luis Rivera.. Possible Causes of Affidavit For Charlie Adelson.

On September 16, 2016, ABC News aired "Besan dan Perbuatan," on episode 20/20 on investigation of the murder.

2017 development

2018 developments

The trial for Katherine Magbanua, a suspected colleague in what researchers say is a murder-to-hire plan to kill Markel, scheduled to begin on January 22, 2018, has been postponed.
