Michele Simon , JD, MPH (born 1965) is a public health lawyer who has been researching and writing on food policy since 1996. His work has been featured on CNBC, CBS News, The New York Times , San Francisco Chronicle , Chicago Tribune , Reuters, and Forbes. He has written extensively on food politics, and his book, The Lucky Appetite: How the Food Industry Destroys Our Health and How to Fight Back , published by Nation Books in 2006. Simon also wrote extensively on alcohol policy.

Biography
Simon studied biology at Carnegie Mellon University and received his master's degree in public health from Yale University and his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Early in his career, Simon wrote about food politics for publications, on issues such as genetically modified foods, organic standards, and the National School Lunch Program.
In 2000, Simon founded a nonprofit organization, Center for Informed Food Choices to educate people about eating plant foods and food politics through its bulletin, Informed Eating.
From 2007 to 2011, Simon served as director of research and policy for the Marin Institute (now called Alcohol Justice), an alcohol industry watch group based in Northern California. Simon testified before Congress to support HR 5034, the Comprehensive Alcohol Reinforcement Act. His 2007 report on alcoholic beverages led to federal action to ban products.
Simon founded Eat Drink Politics in 2011, a food and alcohol industry watchdog consulting company that helps supporters, policymakers and others against corporate tactics that damage public health. Company clients have incorporated the Food Safety Center, International Accountability Corporations, and the Richman Law Group. Simon currently serves as a senior advisor to the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood.
In 2013, Simon was awarded the National Association of Nutritional Association Associations and the Nutrition Award Award from the Nutrition Therapy Association.
In 2016, Simon founded the Plant-Based Food Association (PBFA), a trade association representing the plant-based food industry. Simon currently serves as its executive director. As PBFA's executive director, Simon advances policies and practices to promote plant-based foods.
